Sovereign Hill says “we love you Ballarat” with dollar bills for locals

Every Thursday and Friday in October, residents of Ballarat will be able to pay just $ 1 to visit Sovereign Hill – a gesture according to the attraction is to thank the locals for their support during the lockdown.

The deal applies to those who live in zip codes 3350 to 3358 and 3363 – It includes Creswick, Warrenheip and Invermay, and as far as Lake Bolac and Dereel.

Major attractions president Craig Fletcher said the gesture was to give back to the community to support local tourism, with hospitality struggling during city closures.

“It’s about saying, ‘We really love you Ballarat.’

“This is to thank the Ballarat community for working so hard together during the last lockdown,” he said.

Executive Director Sara Quon said the announcement also relates to the museums team sharing time with the local community.

“Our team love to welcome the locals – they also want to party with the locals,” she said.

Coronavirus rules and site capacity restrictions are still in place at Sovereign Hill, but Ms Quon said she doesn’t see it as an issue at this time of year.

Sovereign Hill has had to close and reopen several times during Ballarat’s seven closures. All attractions are now open except the underground mine which is closed due to the ban on indoor tours.

Ms Quon said the attraction plans to extend its opening days when Melbourne emerges from lockdown.

For now, regional Victorians statewide are welcome to come and enjoy all the activities a day at the site has to offer.

Tickets are now live on the Sovereign Hill website. You will need to show an ID upon arrival.
