BALTIMORE, Md. (August 2, 2022) – Morgan State football opens its preparations for the 2022 fall season this week as its student-athletes officially report to fall camp on Tuesday with practice opening Wednesday morning on the turf of the Earl C. Banks Field at Hughes Stadium.
The football team officially reported to campus for the first fall team activities on Tuesday, August 2. The report day schedule included meetings with academics, compliance, strength and conditioning, and athletic equipment staff from the MSU Student Center.
MSU opens its preseason fall camp that spans August with its first of two helmet-only workouts in the NCAA-mandated acclimatization period on Wednesday, August 3. The Bears are scheduled to practice daily from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Each afternoon includes team, unit, and position meetings, as well as work in the weight room with MSU strength and conditioning staff.
MSU football’s preseason camp schedule includes 17 pre-school training sessions on Monday, August 22, when the team enters its season schedule. The dossier also includes a pair of pre-season scrums, both coming on a Saturday – Saturday August 13 and Saturday August 20 from noon.
Each of MSU’s preseason football practices is open to the public. However, spectators are respectfully requested to observe from the stadium seating area and avoid being on the pitch or on the sidelines for safety reasons. Training times are subject to change.
Entering his first season at the helm, Damon Wilson spoke to members of the media at last week’s Middle East Sports Conference 2022 football media day about the creation of the Bears football programme. Wilson feels that despite being picked to finish last in the MEAC in 2022, players and coaches believe the Bears are better than perceived.
“The closet isn’t bare,” Wilson said. “There are football players at Morgan State University, and we just want to add to that and make sure our guys understand our plan.”
Wilson said the process for making immediate improvements at Morgan State “starts with educating them about Morgan State’s past history.”
“There are guys and graduate students at Morgan State who look back on the glory days,” Wilson said. “We want to bring back those glory days. And I think we have the ability to do that with the support of our administration and the support of everyone on campus. This is a holistic approach.”
