Crews battle 150-acre fire near Camp Roberts


UPDATE (10:50 PM): Camp Roberts Installation Services reports the 150-acre brush fire is now 80% contained. Route 101 is open to travelers, but smoke is still visible in the area.

UPDATE (6:50 PM): CAL Fire BEU has confirmed that the forward spread of the Garrison Fire has stopped at 150 acres.

According to Camp Roberts Installation Services, the fire is 30% contained and the power will remain off until further notice.

The fire was first reported at 3:40 p.m. near East Garrison Road and Highway 101.

Fire crews remain on site to battle blazes in the southeast area of ​​the Salinas River in Monterey County.

At 5 p.m., rail traffic was halted and drivers on Route 101 were affected by smoke.

Camp Roberts Settlement Services said Highway 101 remains open at this time.
