It’s easy to feel the tone shift around the Atlanta Falcons throughout camp as the team nears its preseason opener against the Lions. The front office and coaching staff are confident they are overturning the losing culture that, aside from an impressive 2016 season, has followed the Falcons for much of the past decade.
Matt Ryan and Atlanta went their separate ways this offseason, and you can feel the change in identities on both sides of the ball throughout camp. They’re a young side who don’t feel respected and have just enough talent to be dangerous this season.
That’s not to say the Falcons are contenders when they’re obviously a year away from having a real chance of making it back to the playoffs. However, there are reasons to believe that this team is heading in the right direction and will surprise many this season.
While many fans will point to the departure of Russell Gage and Matt Ryan (and rightly so), it’s important to remember that the Falcons have improved and added more depth to every position except quarterback. this season.
With a very limited budget, the front office has done a great job in free agency and the draft has found ways to add depth and left plenty of reason to believe the team will step forward this season.
